Objective: To be the first player to get rid of all of their cards.
Number of Players: 2 to 6
Deck: 2 standard 52-card decks
Setup:
1. Deal each player 10 cards.
2. The remaining cards are placed face down in a draw pile.
3. The top card of the draw pile is turned over and placed face up next to the draw pile to start the discard pile.
Gameplay:
On your turn, you can do one of the following:
1. Draw a card from the draw pile.
2. Discard one card from your hand to the discard pile.
3. Meld: Declare one or more melds, which are groups of three or four cards of the same rank or runs of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit. When you meld cards, they are removed from your hand.
Scoring:
Rotten Rummy is a Rummy game in which the object of the game is to meld your cards into sets and runs before your opponent. The first player to do this wins the game. If the person does not meld all their cards, then they are penalized. The penalty is as follows:
* For every card left unmelded, the player is penalized 10 points
Winning:
The game ends when one player has melded all of their cards. That player wins the game.
Variations:
There are many different variations of Rotten Rummy. Some common variations include:
* Double Rotten Rummy: Each player is dealt 15 cards instead of 10.
* Triple Rotten Rummy: Each player is dealt 20 cards instead of 10.
* Open Rummy: All cards are dealt face up instead of face down.
* Canasta: A variation that uses special wild cards called canastas.
