How does Dorothy get the broomstick in Wizard of Oz?

Dorothy doesn't actually get a broomstick in the movie "The Wizard of Oz". The character who uses a broomstick is the Wicked Witch of the West.

She uses it to fly around and to chase Dorothy and her friends. It's a powerful and iconic image in the film!
