Here's what's going on:
* The Light Novel Series: The original source material, the light novels written by Reki Kawahara, are still being released. As of October 2023, there are 27 volumes.
* The Anime Series: The anime adaptation is also ongoing. As of October 2023, there are four main seasons and a few movies. The most recent season, "Sword Art Online: Unital Ring", premiered in July 2022.
* Other Media: The franchise has expanded to include manga, video games, and other merchandise.
So, while the Sword Art Online series is not brand new, it is very much still alive and kicking!
