Who is the wizard in Wizard of Oz?

The wizard in The Wizard of Oz is simply called The Wizard. He doesn't have a real name, although he is sometimes referred to as The Wizard of Oz.

He is portrayed as a powerful but ultimately fraudulent figure who uses illusions and trickery to maintain his power and control over the people of Oz.
