Are cloud and aerith a canon couple?

Cloud and Aerith are indeed considered a canon couple in the Final Fantasy VII universe. While they don't have an explicit romantic relationship throughout the main game, there are several instances hinting at their feelings towards each other. Notably, before Aerith's passing in the game, a scene depicts Cloud leaning in to kiss her, but stops shortly after. Their connection extends beyond the main storyline, as further developments in Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, such as the movie Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, showcase Cloud's continued grief over Aerith's death and his determination to honor her memory.
