What are Christmas Carol ghosts?

The Christmas Carol ghosts are four apparitions that visit Ebenezer Scrooge on Christmas Eve in Charles Dickens' 1843 novella *A Christmas Carol*. They are:

1. The Ghost of Christmas Past: This is the first of the three spirits to visit Scrooge. It takes Scrooge on a journey through his past, showing him scenes from his childhood and early adulthood. The Ghost of Christmas Past helps Scrooge to see how he has become the miserly and selfish man he is today, and it encourages him to change his ways.

2. The Ghost of Christmas Present: This spirit takes Scrooge on a journey through the present day, showing him the joy and merriment of the Christmas season. The Ghost of Christmas Present also shows Scrooge the poverty and suffering of others, and it encourages him to be more generous and compassionate.

3. The Ghost of Christmas Future: This is the third and final spirit to visit Scrooge. It takes Scrooge on a journey through the future, showing him what will happen if he does not change his ways. The Ghost of Christmas Future shows Scrooge his own death, and it shows him the misery and suffering that his actions have caused others. This experience terrifies Scrooge, and it ultimately convinces him to change his ways.

The three ghosts are all representatives of Scrooge's own conscience. They help Scrooge to see the error of his ways and to become a better person.
