How do you play canon in D?

To play "Canon in D" on the piano, follow these steps:

Right hand

1. The first measure: Place the first and third fingers of your right hand on the D note on the fourth space of the staff and the F# note on the second ledger line above the staff, respectively. Now, play D-F#-D.

2. The second measure: Place the fourth finger on the D note and play D-F#.

3. The third and fourth measure: Play the exact same notes with your right hand as you played in measure 1 and measure 2.

Now that we've played the first phrase of "Canon in D's" melody with the right hand, we will begin the second phrase but an octave lower.

4. The fifth and sixth measure: Place your second finger on the D note on the second ledger line below the staff and play the F# and then D again, both an octave lower.

5. The seventh and eighth measure: Play the exact same notes with your right hand as you played in measure 5 and 6.

With the right hand, we have completed one period in "Canon in D." Repeat these steps for the second period, starting with placing the first and third fingers on the D and F# notes on the fourth space and second ledger line above the staff in measure 9.

Left hand

1. The first measure: While the right hand is playing D-F#-D, place your second and third fingers of your left hand on A and F# notes, the first ledger line below the staff and second ledger line above the staff, and play A-F#.

2. The second measure: Place your first finger on the D note between staff, and place your third and fourth finger together on A and F#. Play D with the first finger, then play F#.

3. The third measure: Same with measure one, play A and F#.

4. The fourth measure: Keep your first finger on D and play A and F#.

For the left-hand part of the first phrase, we have completed one period. The second phrase will begin in the fifth measure.

5. The fifth measure: Place your first finger on the D note on the third space and play A and F#.

6. The sixth measure: Play the exact same notes as you played in measure five.

7. The seventh measure: Play the exact same notes as you played in measure three.

8. The eighth measure: Place your first finger on the D note between staff and play A and F#.

Now we have completed one whole period of the left hand part of "Canon in D." Repeat the steps above to complete the second period of the left hand.
