Why do eyes bleed in Supernatural?

In the TV series Supernatural, eyes bleeding is usually a sign that a person has been possessed by a demon. The eyes are one of the few parts of the body that are not covered by skin, so they can be easily seen by others. When someone is possessed, the demon will often manifest its presence by causing their eyes to bleed. This can be a warning to others that the person is dangerous and should be avoided.
