How to Do a Scissor Cut

The Scissor Cut is a way to cut a deck of cards using only one hand. When you first attempt to use this style of cutting the deck, you might think your hands are too small. This is not always the case. If you keep practicing, your hands will become more flexible and you will be able to perfect this trick. There are five steps to performing the scissor cut.

Instructions

  1. Introduction to The Scissor Cut

    • 1

Hold the deck like you would when dealing. Put your pointer finger on the end of the cards that are facing away from you, then put your little finger on the short end opposite your pointer finger.

    • 2

Move your thumb right next to your little finger. The side of your little finger your thumb is on is determined by which hand your are holding the deck of cards in.

    • 3

Break off the top half of the deck, using the back of your thumb. Start moving your thumb away from the little finger, this will cause the cards to pivot on your pointer finger.

    • 4

Stretch your pointer finger away until the top of the deck of cards clears the bottom. If you have trouble doing this, use your other fingers to move the bottom of the deck in the opposite direction.

    • 5

Move your thumb so the top half of the deck is under the bottom half of the deck, then place them back together.
