How do you play with Pokemon cards?

Here's a breakdown of how to play the Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG):

1. Basic Concepts

* Decks: Each player uses a deck of 60 cards, containing Pokemon, Trainers, and Energy cards.

* Pokemon: These are your fighters, with different stats, attacks, and abilities. They have weaknesses and resistances to different types.

* Trainers: These cards provide various effects, like drawing cards, healing, or disrupting your opponent's strategy.

* Energy: You attach these cards to your Pokemon to power their attacks. Each attack requires a certain amount of energy.

2. The Game Setup

* Shuffling: Both players shuffle their decks and draw a hand of seven cards.

* Mulligan (Optional): You can choose to shuffle your hand back into your deck and redraw seven cards if you aren't happy with your initial hand. You can only do this once per game.

* Active Pokemon: Each player places one Pokemon face-up on their "Active Pokemon" spot. This is your main attacker.

* Bench: Players can place up to five Pokemon face-down on their "Bench." You can switch your Active Pokemon with a Pokemon from your Bench.

3. Taking Turns

Each turn consists of these phases:

* Draw: Start your turn by drawing one card from your deck.

* Play: You can play any number of Trainer cards and attach Energy cards to your Pokemon.

* Attack: If your Active Pokemon has enough Energy, you can attack your opponent's Active Pokemon.

* End Turn: Declare that your turn is over.

4. Attacking

* Attack Costs: Each attack requires a specific amount of Energy.

* Weakness and Resistance: Pokemon have weaknesses and resistances that can modify the damage they deal or take.

* Retreat: If you want to switch your Active Pokemon, you must pay the retreat cost (if any) for the Pokemon you're switching out.

5. Winning the Game

* Knockout: When a Pokemon's HP reaches 0, it's knocked out. The Pokemon is removed from the game.

* Prize Cards: When you knock out a Pokemon, you take a Prize card from your opponent's Prize card pile. The first player to take six Prize cards wins.

6. Basic Strategies

* Building a Deck: Choose your Pokemon types wisely, considering their strengths and weaknesses. Include a variety of Trainer cards to support your strategy.

* Energy Management: Manage your Energy effectively to power up your attacks and use your Pokemon to their fullest potential.

* Bench Utilization: Use your Bench to bring in strong Pokemon when needed and to switch out your Active Pokemon to avoid attacks.

* Trainer Card Strategy: Utilize Trainer cards to disrupt your opponent's strategies, heal your Pokemon, draw cards, and more.
