How does Waverly persuade her brothers to let play chess too in The Rules of the Game by Amy Tan?

Waverly does not persuade her brothers to let her play chess. In the early part of the story, Waverly observes her brothers Vic, Ronny and Vincent play chess. She sits silently and watches, sometimes being forced to do some household tasks but eager to learn. It's her mother who teaches her how to play.
