What did de soto discover when he went to sea?

Hernando de Soto was a Spanish explorer, not a sailor. He is primarily known for his exploration of the southeastern United States, not for any discoveries at sea.

De Soto led a large expedition through what is now Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana between 1539 and 1542. He was searching for gold and the mythical "Seven Cities of Cibola."

While de Soto didn't discover any new landmasses or oceans, his exploration significantly impacted the native populations he encountered. His expedition brought disease and violence, contributing to the decline of many Native American tribes.
