Why do the Spanish lisp?

They actually don't. The stereotype of Spanish people lisping comes from a confusion between the English 'th' sound and the Spanish 'c' or 'z'. The Spanish pronunciation is actually a 'th', and the English 'th' is closer to the Spanish 's'.
