The "Binasuan" dance is a colorful, lively and rhythmic dance that perfectly matches the upbeat melody of the music. The dancers carry glasses filled with water or sometimes alcoholic beverages like basi, and their movements follow the musical beat. The dance also showcases skillful movements of the dancers to avoid spilling any liquid from their glasses. Despite the challenges the dancers are very graceful and they can even balance or carry two glasses at a time while skillfully dancing their way around. The lively tune of the dance encourages the dancers to perform exciting stunts to entertain the audience.
The Binasuan dance has become more popular nowadays because it is also performed during festivities and cultural events. It is a dance of joy that highlights the unity and cooperation among the people in the community, just like how basi is widely shared among guests and friends.
Here are the steps in performing Binasuan dance:
1. Dancers begin by standing straight with their two hands on their sides, facing the audience.
2. Next, they raise their right arm and take their right foot forward then return to their original position. Do the same with the left arm and left foot.
3. They take a step forward and then backward. This is followed by a step on their right foot then left foot with a sway of their hips.
4. They bend their body a bit downward while moving their hands around their hips.
5. They place one hand on their hip while the other hand holds their glass above their head. This step is repeated on both sides.
6. They return to the original position and extend the leg alternately while raising their arms. This is done twice.
7. As the dance progresses, the movements become more complex and graceful. The dancers showcase various formations, spins, and intricate steps to the rhythm of the music.
8. Towards the end of the dance, they balance two glasses on their hands and perform skillful stunts.
9. The dancers end the performance with a synchronized move, holding their glasses while bowing to the audience.
Binasuan dance remains to be a traditional dance of Pangasinenses during festivities, cultural performances, and social events. It provides an opportunity to celebrate traditions, culture, unity, and joy amidst the modern influences.
