When did disco die out and end?

Disco's popularity peaked in the mid-1970s but began to decline in the late 1970s due to a number of factors, including backlash against its perceived superficiality and monotony, competition from other music genres such as punk rock and new wave, and the end of the Vietnam War, which had fueled the disco era's hedonistic atmosphere.

Additionally, the commercial saturation of disco music and its association with the gay community led to a backlash against the genre.

The genre's demise was famously depicted in the 1977 film "Saturday Night Fever," which featured the Bee Gees' hit song "Stayin' Alive." The film's climax, which shows a discotheque burning down, is often seen as a symbolic representation of the end of the disco era.

However, disco did not completely disappear after the late 1970s. Many disco artists continued to record and perform, and the genre continues to influence modern pop music.
