What are the two important components of American jazz?

African American roots: Jazz originated in the African American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, around the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It draws heavily on African musical traditions, such as call-and-response vocals, polyrhythms, and improvisation.

European influence: Jazz also incorporates elements from European music, including harmonies, melodies, and instruments. For example, the use of brass instruments, such as trumpets and trombones, and the adoption of European musical forms, such as the march, are examples of European influence in jazz.

The combination of African American and European musical elements is what makes jazz a unique and distinct musical style.
