Why were the blues created?

The blues developed from African, African-American spirituals, work songs, chants, shouts, folk ballads, reels, hymns, ragtime, minstrel traditions, vaudeville, and country music forms as they were sung among black Southern communities at the turn of the 19th to 20th centuries.
