Why was line dancing invented?

There isn't enough evidence to state exactly when or why line dancing was invented. However, it is believed that line dancing evolved from traditional folk dances, such as clogging, quadrilles, and contra dances, which were popular in the 19th century.

Line dancing gained popularity in the United States in the 1970s and the 1980s, particularly in country music and western dance halls, where it became a social activity and a way for people to learn and practice dance moves in a group setting.
