What is a dancing reel?

A dancing reel is a traditional Irish folk dance consisting of two or more dancers performing a series of intricate and energetic patterns while linked together. It commonly involves holding hands or interlocking arms while executing synchronized steps, jumps, and movements to lively traditional Irish music. Dancing reels usually occur at social gatherings called céilís (pronounced "kay-lees") and have become synonymous with Irish dance. Their upbeat rhythms and dynamic choreography provide both a spectacle and opportunity for joyful participation that brings the Irish dance community together.
