Example of an occupational dance in the Philippines?

The Tinikling is a traditional Philippine folk dance that originated amongst farmers in the rural areas. It is named after the "tikling" which is a species of bird known for its long, thin legs and is found in open grasslands and fields. The dance mimics the tikling's elegant and swift movement as it weaves and evades obstacles.

In the Tinikling, two persons sit on the floor facing each other, each holding and rhythmically striking two bamboo poles on the ground and raising and lowering them in alternating fashion. Another dancer has to demonstrate skill and grace in stepping in between the bamboo sticks and in and out of the gap between the poles as they are hit together on the ground. The tempo of the clapping bamboo poles increases throughout the dance, making it more challenging and exciting.

The Tinikling requires agility, coordination, and grace from the dancer, and it showcases the Filipinos' resilience, creativity, and appreciation for the country's rich culture and traditions.
