What is a belly dancer?

A belly dancer is a person who performs a Middle Eastern dance that emphasizes hip and abdominal movements. The name "belly dance" is derived from the Arabic word "raqs sharqi", which means "oriental dance". Belly dancing has its roots in the Middle East, and is believed to have originated in Egypt. It is traditionally performed by women, and is often seen as a sensual and exotic dance form. Belly dancing is often performed to live music, and the dancer may use props such as veils, swords, or finger cymbals.
