The top motivational reason why people join dance teams is the camaraderie. Sharing in each other's achievements, supporting each other and working toward a common goal are all outstanding reasons to join a dance team. It is likely that you and your teammates will travel together, compete together and share experiences, which will set the foundations for strong friendships.
Get fit. It's an unfortunate truth, but most of us don't get enough exercise. The health benefits of joining a dance team are too numerous to list, but improved posture, balance, stamina, circulation, bone density and heart and lung function aren't bad reasons to sign up as soon as possible.
While you shouldn't join a dance team for the express reason of losing weight, it will have the added bonus of helping you stay in shape without resorting to pounding the tread mill or hitting the cross trainer, and you're more likely to do it regularly because you enjoy it. To quote Polly de Mille, exercise physiologist at the Women's Sports Medicine Center at Hospital for Special Surgery, "The social aspects of dance help to make it very attractive for an increasing number of people versus, say, an elliptical training machine. Scientific studies are now also telling us that many things make dancing an excellent fitness regimen with attractive benefits."
People enjoy dance in all its forms, and with the rise of TV programs revolving around competitive dance, it's never been more popular. At the end of the day, despite the health and social benefits, people dance because they love it.
