Decide on the location of the dance studio, preferably a location with wood floors. Once you know where the location will be, either a building or small studio in your own home, use your measuring tape to start measuring the location space. Take measurements of the floor, as well as the walls. These measurements are necessary when purchasing supplies for the dance studio, including flooring and mirrors, and for building the ballet barre.
Prepare the dance studio floor. Install wood floors if the location of the dance studio does not have wood floors. The measurements for the dance studio floor are necessary to get the correct size of the flooring. If you make your own dance floor, take these measurements to a hardware store. Someone there can provide the correct wood needed for a dance floor. Sand the wood and apply a couple of layers of wood varnish, which makes the dance floor look shiny. There are also a number of dance supply stores where you can purchase ready-made flooring.
Install mirrors for the dance studio after the flooring has been installed. Like the dance floor, mirrors can also be installed with a couple of supplies from the hardware store, or by purchasing a ready-made mirror from a dance supply store.
Create a ballet barre. Once the flooring and mirrors are installed, there is only one thing missing -- a ballet barre. Create ballet barres with metal pipes or pipes made from PVC, according to Wish Upon a Ballet. PVC is used to make a number of products from flooring to pipes. Hardware stores have products you can use. Depending whether the ballet barre is portable, and if it is made of PVC or metal pipes joints, caps and brackets may be needed. Wish Upon a Ballet notes that portable ballet barres made with PVC may need sand bags to hold them down, as they are meant to be lightweight.
Add a music system to the dance studio. This can be something simple like a portable CD player. Once music is added to the dance studio, it's time to dance.
