The Line Hustle was most famously seen in the film "Saturday Night Fever." Slight alterations of this dance cause it to develop into country line dancing. Line Hustle dancing can also be adapted and changed slightly into a hip-hop line dance. The dance itself is very adaptable between different styles and genres.
The Rope Hustle can be broken into two separate dances, one of which is similar to the Latin style merengue. The other Rope Hustle dance takes the name of the dance literally. In the dance, the man and woman are linked together by small ropes but not hand to hand. The man's role was to lead the woman with the ropes.
The New York Hustle is the surviving and mainstream version of the Hustle dances. The dance is a 3-count tempo, although the dance began as a 6-count tempo. The New York Hustle can be seen in the 1975 "West Coast Swing" in the performance by the women. The dance has seen many changes to the steps apart from the tempo over the years but is the most recognized version of the Hustle dance.
