"[P]urpose-built for dancing" and operating only since 2004, according to its website, Cielo can boast a bevy of awards for everything from interior design to best disc jockey to best nightclub overall. Cielo, which means "heaven" in Spanish, offers dancing to electronic music on a sunken dance floor exposed to "a range of inventive lighting effects" that create an updated 70s-era effect. According to Fodors.com, a "relatively mature crowd gravitates to this small, superfashionable Meatpacking District destination." Music may range from electro, techno and house to Latin, hip-hop and jazz. Open until 4 a.m. Monday through Saturday, the club takes reservations and offers private rentals.

If it's dancing you're after, the Pyramid Club is an excellent choice. Featuring large dance floors, as well as bars, on two separate levels, it also offers "a theme night for every individual's taste . . . [f]rom Hip Hop nights on Sundays to 80s New Wave on Thursdays," according to the club's site. You can also find plenty of industrial, synthpop and goth music at the club, which presents both disc jockeys and live bands. Pyramid Club is also distinguished by its low cover charge and drink prices. The club has been around since the 1980s and still hosts plenty of music from that era. For baby boomers who are looking to relive that decade, Pyramid may be just the ticket.
