What GCSE grades do you need to get into performing arts school?

Entry Requirements in the UK

Most applicants will be required to have the following qualifications on entry:

GCSEs

Five GCSE subjects at grade 3 or above, including GCSE English Language and Mathematics. In some cases, a pass in GCSE Science (Physics, Biology, Chemistry) is also required.

A-Levels or equivalent

Three A-Levels, including Performing Arts at grade C or above. Other appropriate A-Levels may be accepted in place of Performing Arts. In addition, relevant experience in the industry.

Equivalent Qualifications

An equivalent vocational qualification, e.g. an OCR Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts, may be accepted.

Other Requirements

In addition to the above, most conservatoires and performing arts schools will also require you to:

Have a high standard of musical ability, or experience of drama

Be able to sight read music

Have a good level of flexibility, strength and fitness

Entry requirements for conservatoires and performing arts schools can vary considerably.

Some colleges may require you to have a specific A-Level or BTEC subject, or may require you to take a specific audition or interview.

It is always best to check with the individual college or institution to find out what their specific requirements are.
