Why were the girls dancing in play The Crucible?

The girls in the play "The Crucible" were dancing in the forest as part of a pagan ritual. They were practicing witchcraft, which was considered a serious crime in the Puritan society of Salem, Massachusetts in the late 1600s. The dancing was seen as a form of devil worship and was one of the main events that led to the Salem witch trials.
