How to Tie Ballet Shoes

Learning how to tie your ballet shoes is an essential part of every ballerina's regimen. While the process is somewhat traditional, it is also very helpful to the dancer when practicing and during performances. There is an easy way to guarantee your ballet shoes are tied properly and are tied so that the shoes will show little string while allowing maximum comfort and usability of the ballet shoe.

Instructions

      Put your ballet slipper on your foot.

      Hold both strings in your hands and pull or push the strings in each one of your corresponding hands.

      Point your feet and flex your feet adjusting your strings so that it is comfortable enough to allow flexibility, but still support of each flex and point position.

      Tie the strings together in a single knot, when your feet are most comfortable with the level of support after flexing and pointing

      Pull both strings up and try to wedge the knot inside the crevices of the ballet slipper

      Tie the the remaining string in a bow.

    • 7

      Tuck each side of the bow in your ballet slipper and ensure that you are still comfortable flexing and pointing your toe, even with the bows tucked inside your ballet shoe.
