How did florence AZ get its name?

The city of Florence, Arizona, was named after the Italian city of Florence by Charles T. Hayden, a mining engineer and real estate developer who founded the city in 1866. Hayden was originally from Boston, Massachusetts, but he had spent some time in Italy and was inspired by the beauty and culture of Florence. He decided to name his new city after the Italian city in the hopes that it would become a hub for culture and commerce in the Arizona Territory.
