What happens to bed in Divergent?

The bed in Divergent is burned by Tris as part of the Dauntless initiation. The initiates are required to burn their belongings as a way of letting go of their past and embracing their new life in Dauntless. Tris is initially hesitant to burn her bed, as it is a reminder of her old life and her family, but she eventually does so in order to fully commit to her new life as a Dauntless member.
