Write a list of topics that inspire you. Choose topics that matter to you personally. Examples include ambition, success, relationships, music and art.
Write a list of your personal and professional activities and goals. Think of the things that would inspire you to achieve your dreams. For each goal you want to accomplish, write a list of things that make you want to achieve that goal. For example, if your goal is to get in shape, inspirational material can come from watching the Olympics.
Organize a schedule for journal writing. Mark the days you plan to write on a calendar. Commit to writing a journal entry on each scheduled day.
Write the date and a topic at the beginning of each entry. Use dates, so that you will be able to track your progress later. Use topics to keep your writing focused. Make at least a few notes that are relevant to inspirational topics in each entry.
Track your progress on long-term goals in each entry. Make notes about what you did each day that brought you closer to your long-term goals. If you have several goals at any one time, include notes on one or several of them in each entry. Make an update whenever you see progress.
Write positively. Use words like "love," "inspire" and "excite." Do not use words like "sad," "depressed" and "hate." If you want to write moody entries, keep them in a separate journal; an inspirational journal is not a negative journal.
Include observations and quotes that inspire you. For example, if you're inspired by a line in a film, include it in a journal entry.
