Who is the traveler in poem listeners?

In the poem "Listeners," by Walter de la Mare, the traveler is the speaker of the poem. The traveler is walking in the twilight and is trying to find a place to sleep for the night. They come upon a house and decide to knock on the door to ask for shelter.
