Musicality: An understanding of the music of language, and the ability to use rhythm, rhyme, and other sonic devices to enhance the poems impact.
Knowledge of Poetry: A familiarity with the history and traditions of poetry, and a willingness to experiment and innovate with form.
Empathy: The ability to understand and express the emotions of others, and to connect with readers on a personal level.
Authenticity: A commitment to writing with honesty and integrity. The reader should be able to sense that the poet is expressing their genuine feelings and thoughts.
