"This Just To Say" by William Carlos Williams is full of irony. Although the narrator begins the poem by addressing what can be assumed to be the person to whom these plums (or possibly prunes) belong, the title tells us that this was in fact "just to say" – that there is perhaps little or no true explanation or apology as to the theft of the fruit itself.
