Bridgette Bardot became globally popular as the embodiment of sex kitten persona at the end of the 1950s after gaining significant notoriety through various French and Italian romantic comedies she acted in at a young age. Her fame, and her status as a fashion and cinematic icon, propelled her to stardom in subsequent Hollywood productions she was involved in.

She also became notable for being associated with various scandals involving her tumultuous romances, multiple marriages, and being a highly outspoken French social activist, environmentalist, and animal rights campaigner. Her involvement caused some social controversies which, together with her work in media and cinema, kept her famous throughout most of the late 20th century.
