The Visionary Poetry Association is a Las Vegas poetry club that was formed in 2002. Its mission is threefold: to support poets working in visionary poetry and other related art fields; to support the expression of visionary poetry; and to provide support to fans of visionary poetry. Funding for the club comes from its own members. The Visionary Poetry Association regularly holds events that are open to the public, including open mic nights and poetry readings at venues such as Jitters and the Iowa Café.

This poetry club takes as its motto, "Spit your soul in the City of Sin." The project of local poet Mary L. Carter, Spit hosts a weekly reading series that also features live acoustic music from area musicians. Spit is also represented at First Friday, an outdoor event that takes place on the first Friday of every month in downtown Las Vegas that sees local artists, poets and musicians taking their art to the streets for the local community to imbibe. The event takes place around the intersection of Casino Center Blvd. and Colorado.

The Las Vegas Poets Organization is in many ways an activist organization seeking to promote the role of poetry in civic life in the Las Vegas area. Among other activities, the Las Vegas Poets organizes the annual Vegas Slam, a festive competition for performance poetry. Every Tuesday, some of its members host a featured reading and open mic at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. On Wednesdays, an all-ages open mic is held at the Sunrise Coffee Company.
