Poems About Grandmothers

For any child, being able to turn to a grandmother for comfort or advice has always been very important. Grandmothers will always be there to love and care unconditionally and at times it is nice for them to know that their presence is recognized. Whether it be for a birthday or simply as an emotional gesture, receiving a loving poem is a nice way for them to feel your appreciation or your child's appreciation. Here are a few touching poems written about grandmothers.
  1. "Grandmother" -- Author Unknown

    • Grandmother you are like a patchwork quilt

      So cozy and warm.

      Just the smell of coffee

Reminds me of your wisdom and charm.

I know I can always come to you

      When lost or alone.

      For you always comfort me

And make me feel at home.

You are the silver lining of a cloudy day.

And I know whom I can trust

      when clouds blow my way.

      Grandmother, your hugs and kisses

Will be stored in my heart each day.

    "Old Woman" -- Joseph Campbell

    • As a white candle

      In a holy place,

      So is the beauty

      Of an aged face.

"Advice For A Grandparent" -- Mary R. Hurley

    • Don't pamper the baby,

      Don't run to each cry;

      Don't rock that new infant

      And don't lullaby;

      Don't coddle or cuddle,

That's all there is to it!

      Don't spoil that sweet baby

      Let us grandparents do it!

"What are Grandmas For" -- Author Unknown

    • Grandmas are for stories

      about things of long ago.

      Grandmas are for caring

about all the things you know...

      Grandmas are for rocking you

      and singing you to sleep,

      Grandmas are for giving you

      nice memories to keep...

      Grandmas are for knowing

all the things you're dreaming of...

      But, most importantly of all,

      grandmas are for love.

    "Grandmas" -- Erma Bombeck

    • Grandmas can shed the yoke of responsibility,

relax and enjoy their grandchildren in a way

      that was not possible

when they were raising their own children.

And they can glow in the realization

that here is their seed of life

that will harvest generations to come.
