What is the definition of verse choir?

Verse choir is a type of choral singing in which each voice sings a different part, as opposed to singing in unison or harmony. This type of singing is often used in religious music, such as hymns and anthems, but can also be used in secular music. Verse choirs are typically accompanied by a keyboard instrument, such as a piano or organ, or by a small instrumental group.
