Poetry is self expression in it's purest form. With practice, anyone can write good poetry. All it takes is an open mind, the desire to write one's feelings down, and the ability to adequately express one's self. In time, you too can write great poetry.

      Look at examples of good poetry. Go to poetry websites and read the poems there. Gain inspiration by looking at the various styles of poetry you see. Decide what you like and dislike about each style. Which style captivates you? Which style inspires you to write? It is important to ask questions.

      Read poems by well-known poets. You can learn about yourself by studying the masters. Why did he write that piece the way he did? How was she feeling when she wrote that one? Asking questions like this can allow you to better understand what makes a good poem a good poem.

      Practice writing poetry. The more you practice, the better you will become at writing poetry. Over time, you will find ways you can improve your writing skills. You will also be happy because you have found a creative outlet to express your feelings. This in it's self can be rewarding. Poetry is great for the soul.

      Have others read your poetry. Letting others poets read your work can be very beneficial to you. They can offer you advice on what you do well and what you need to improve on. This in turn, will make you a better poet.
