What was Robert Preston?

Actor. Robert Preston Meservey (June 8, 1918–March 21, 1987) was an American actor and singer who worked in stage, film, and television. He was known for his appearances in such films as *The Music Man* (1962), *Victor/Victoria* (1982), and *S.O.B.* (1981), and for his performances on Broadway, including leading roles in *The Music Man* (1957), *I Do! I Do!* (1966), and *Mack & Mabel* (1974). Preston was also known for his television work, including his role as Professor Harold Hill in the 1962 television film adaptation of *The Music Man* and his guest-starring roles on such series as *The Love Boat* and *Murder, She Wrote*.
