Insert a page break in your word processor document. You want the bibliography page where you cite references separate from the paper itself. Use double spacing between entries in your bibliography and single spacing for the entries. Indent a half-inch (five spaces) for each line after the first for individual entries. Type the word "Works Cited" left justified at the top of the page.
Type the author's name, last name first, for books with one author. Follow the author's name with the title of the book, underlined, then the place of publication, publisher and date of publication. Use N.p. for entries with no place of publication. Use a colon to separate the place of publication from the publisher. For citations from books with more than one author, type the second author's full name as first name followed by middle initial and last name. With three or more authors, you can type the first author's name followed by et al.
Type encyclopedia articles without an author with quotation marks around the title, followed by the title of the reference book. Underline the title of the reference book. Follow the title with the edition number or date and the abbreviation ed. For encyclopedia entries with an author, begin the entry with the author's name as last name followed by first name and middle initial.
Type electronic citations without using a URL. As of 2009, MLA guidelines no longer require URLs. Simply type the author’s name followed by title of work in italics, followed by the name of the website in italics. Follow the name of the web page with the date of a print source if available, the word "Web" to indicate the publication medium and the date you accessed the material online. The date should be typed as such: 29 Sept. 2009.
