What is the main idea in reading Lolita Tehran?
"Lolita Tehran" tells the fictional story of the relationship between an older Jewish man and a young non-Jewish Iranian girl during the final day of the Shah's regime in Iran (September 8, 1978 or the 17 Shahrivar 1357 in the Persian calendar). It addresses many issues that were prevalent within Iranian and Jewish literature circles such as "the Iranian Jewish identity, sexual repression and violence toward women." (Mir-Kasimov; Iranian Studies)
There are two central issues within these two topics that Nazanine Hozar (the author) wishes to present to her audience that can also be seen reflected throughout modern and past Iranian society and media:
1. Sexual suppression
2. Lack of identity
