Who wrote the book Gil Blas?

The novel Gil Blas was written by the French author Alain-René Lesage and was first published in 1715. The full title of the work is The Adventures of Gil Blas of Santillane. Originally published anonymously in four volumes between 1715 and 1735, this picaresque novel relates the often picaresque adventures of the eponymous character.
