What are some untrue legends told about William Shakespeare?

* Shakespeare was illiterate. This legend is based on the fact that there is no known signature of Shakespeare's that survives today. However, there are many other documents that exist that show that Shakespeare was able to read and write, including his plays, poems, and sonnets.

* Shakespeare was a member of the nobility. There is no evidence to support this claim. Shakespeare's father was a glover, and his mother was the daughter of a farmer. Shakespeare himself was an actor and a playwright, not a member of the nobility.

* Shakespeare wrote all of his plays and poems alone. This is not true. Shakespeare collaborated with other playwrights on many of his works, including John Fletcher and Thomas Middleton.

* Shakespeare was homosexual. There is no evidence to support this claim. In fact, there is evidence to suggest that Shakespeare was heterosexual, including the fact that he was married to a woman and had three children.

These are just a few of the many untrue legends told about William Shakespeare. The truth about Shakespeare is that he was a brilliant writer and playwright who left a lasting legacy on the world of literature.
