Friar Laurence's hobby in Romeo and Juliet is botany, or the study of plants. He is often found in his cell tending to his plants and making potions from their extracts. His knowledge of plants is also evident in the way he uses them to help Romeo and Juliet. For example, he gives Juliet a potion that makes her appear dead so that she can escape from her arranged marriage to Paris.
