Stebbing's work was influential in the development of analytic philosophy and logical positivism. He was also a prominent critic of idealism and metaphysics. He argued that philosophy should be based on the analysis of language and that metaphysical statements are meaningless.
Stebbing was a Fellow of the British Academy and a member of the American Philosophical Association. He was also awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1946.
