When did david walliams start writing books and why?

David Walliams started his career as a comedian, and only later turned to writing children's books. He started writing books in 2008. He was inspired by his own experiences with reading and by his desire to create stories that would make children laugh and think, also he mentioned writing books for children was 'more rewarding' than his TV career.
