What does john ask marry warren to do The Crucible by Arthur Miller?

In Arthur Miller's play "The Crucible," John asks Mary Warren to sign a deposition stating that Abigail Williams and the other girls were falsely accusing innocent people of witchcraft. John hopes that this deposition will help free the accused and put an end to the hysteria sweeping through Salem. However, Mary is reluctant to sign the document, fearing Abigail's wrath and the consequences it may bring upon herself and her family.
