Susan Eloise Hinton (born July 22, 1950) is an American writer best known for her 1967 novel The Outsiders. She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and began writing The Outsiders at the age of 15, while still in high school. Hinton studied journalism at the University of Tulsa but left before graduating to pursue a writing career.
