Speak from the heart. Beauty can only manifest itself when it comes from the heart of a person onto a page. Whether it is a speech, poem, song, or editorial, coming from the heart will add a genuine touch with which other’s hearts can relate.
Infuse some raw emotion. Unlike the fictional Vulcan race, we as humans cannot completely control our emotions. Raw emotion is the stuff that beautiful writing is made of, which translates through words that others read. While you want your emotions to translate, using descriptive words that speak to your exact emotions help to better convey what you feel.
Clear your mind in a quiet place. Finding personal solitude can help you to clear your head and better listen to yourself speak. A quiet spot where you are alone helps you to focus on what you want to say rather than expending energy seeking to block out the voices and background noise of others. Your energy can truly be spent on writing when you have solitude.
Read your writing out loud. Beautiful writing often has the quality of being fluid when read out loud. If the piece sounds jumbled or congested when you are reading it out loud, then consider revising it until it rolls off your tongue with ease.
Solicit the opinion of others. Your opinion is what matters the most if it is a written piece that is only meant for you. However, if your writing is intended for others to read, then soliciting outside opinion can help validate your views. Ensure that you get the opinion of someone who knows writing and who will be honest with you rather than someone who will patronize you. This is the only way you will glean an honest and well respected opinion that will help you improve your writing.
